The Verses of March Blow In!
Music, Recitation & Silent Auction

Writer, poets, and musicians will come together to read selected works from participating author for the 12th annual Northern Arizona Book Festival. Readings by Angela Cooper, Jill Divine, James Jay, Doug McGlothlin, Seth Muller. Music by Matthew Henry Hall, Alyson Jay, Tony Norris, & many more.

Enjoy some munchies. Hear a great show. Bid on unique, fun, and artsy items with all proceeds to benefit literacy efforts in Northern Arizona!

Event: Poetry and Fiction reading by Mark Gibbons, Alberto Rios, and Diana Gabaldon

Poet Mark Gibbons (author of blue horizon) will read his latest poetry. Sponsored by One Book Arizona, their 2009 Book Winner, Alberto Rios (author of Capirotada: A Nogales Memoir) will read his award winning work. Diana Gabaldon, the New York Times best-selling (author of the Outlander series), will read from her recent work.

Event: 3rd Annual Jim Simmerman Poetry Prize winners

Selected by award winning poet, Mark Gibbons, winners from the annual Simmerman Poetry Prize for local high school students will read their work.

The Jim Simmerman Poetry Prize for Poets of Flagstaff District High Schools is made possible by a generous donation from Kim Holland and the Authors In Schools program she founded. Jim Simmerman was a nationally renowned poet and Regents Professor at Northern Arizona University. He often times volunteered to teach poetry workshops in local high schools over the course of his long career.

Event: Indefatigable Influence: An Exploration of the Grand Canyons’ Influence on the Visual and Literary Artists and Writers Past & Present

Regionalist, Rod Parnell will moderate a discussion panel examining the ways in which environment (specifically the Grand Canyon and Mogollon Rim) have influenced artists from the Ancient inhabitants of the region to present. The panel will consist of an array of painters, photographers, poets, essayist, and historians, including Bruce Aiken, Wayne Ranney, Steve Hirst, Lois Hirst.

Event: Poetry and Prose by Matthew Henry Hall, Jennifer Nez Denetdale, and Erik Bitsui

Matthew Henry Hall, musician, cartoonist, and writer (author of Guapo Y Fuerte) reads and sings his latest. Essayist, fiction writer, and long-time educator, Erik Bitsui reads his writings. Dr. Jennifer Nez Denetdale (author of The Long Walk: The Forced Exile of the Navajo) presents her latest work.

Event: Contemporary Voices in Prose: Readings by Seth Muller, Tammy Greenwood, and Jim Ruland

Journalist and novelist, Seth Muller (author of The Mockingbird’s Manual) reads his fiction. Acclaimed novelist Tammy Greenwood (author of Two Rivers) reads from her work. National Endowment for the Arts fellow, Jim Ruland (author of Big Lonesome) presents his latest short stories.

Event: An Evening with Robert Bly

International literary icon, groundbreaking poet, translator, and storyteller, Robert Bly presents poetry and stories.
